After install, your Home dashboard shows a Launch progress tracker — the checklist that walks you from a fresh install to a live agent. This article explains exactly what each step does and why it's there.

What "Launch progress" is for
The Launch progress card on Home is your single source of truth for "what's left before shoppers can use this?". It shows percent complete, a short subtitle ("Test in sandbox before exposing to shoppers."), and one node per stage. The stages mirror the sidebar:
Train ➜ Evaluate ➜ Publish
You don't have to use it — every action is reachable from the sidebar — but following it is the shortest path to live.
Step 1 — Train
Done when: "Convi has learned your store."
This step is automatic. The moment you finish the setup wizard, Convi indexes your products, collections, pages, policies, blogs, and shop info. While that's happening, the Train node shows "Convi is reading your store content.". Once indexing finishes, it flips to Sandbox tested for that node and the tracker moves on.
If you want to teach Convi things your imported content can't cover — bundle-specific refunds, brand FAQs, custom rules — go to Train:
Train → Content — view what's been imported, add or edit custom FAQs.
Train → Persona — refine the assistant's name, avatar, tone, and answer length, and add advanced instructions.
Train → Abilities — turn on optional capabilities (order tracking, cancellation, handover, etc.).
Train → Rules — write plain-English rules ("Always offer a 10% off code if shipping is late.").
Step 2 — Evaluate (with Pre-flight)
Done when: "Sandbox tested" and "All checks passed".
The Evaluate node has two parts:
Test in Playground — open Evaluate → Playground and send Convi at least one message. The Playground runs the exact same brain as the live widget, but in a sandbox (nothing counts toward your usage, no shopper sees anything).
Run Pre-flight — open Evaluate → Pre-flight and click Run all 5 tests. Pre-flight is a 5-question self-test using your imported content: each test gets a verdict of Pass, Warning, Fail, or Error, with a clear "How to fix" path (usually one click — Add knowledge).
💡 Tip: Pre-flight is recommended, not required — you can still go live with failing tests — but each failing test is a topic shoppers will ask about and Convi won't answer well. Fixing them first is cheap insurance.
Step 3 — Publish
Done when all three of the Publish sub-steps below are green.
This is the go-live step. Until it's done, Convi is in preview mode — usable in the admin, not visible on the storefront.
The three Publish sub-steps
The Publish node expands into three small actions:
Pick plan — "Select the appropriate plan based on your website traffic and usage." The Free plan is fully usable in the admin, but the widget will not render on the storefront. Pick a Starter / Growth / Scale / Enterprise plan in Settings → Plan.
Activate chat widget — "Enable the Convi chat widget to publish it in your store." Open Publish → Widgets and turn on the bubble widget.
Activate app embed — "Enable Convi's app embed in your theme." Open your Shopify theme editor → App embeds → toggle Convi — Chat Widget on → Save. The Storefront status card on Home has a one-click deep-link for this.
When all three are green, the Storefront status card shows Live on store and Home flips from the Launch view to the Operator view.
After you're live
Home replaces the Launch progress card with the Live activity banner — "Convi is handling N shopper(s) right now" — and a set of KPI cards (Conversations, AI resolution, Escalation rate). You move from setup to running the agent.
The 30-day free-month discount
While you're working through the checklist, Home shows a small banner: "🎁 Finish setup to unlock your free month." When all the steps complete, the banner flips to "🎁 Your free month is unlocked" with a copy-able discount code. It's a one-time gift, one full month on any paid plan.
